Tooth Whitening
Whitening your teeth is a quick and easy step toward a sparkling smile. It may be all you need.
Tooth whitening or bleaching is a simple dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel and is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.
Having whiter teeth is the number one aesthetic concern of most of our clients and there are a number of ways to whiten your teeth.
The most popular method is using a dentist-supervised home tooth whitening system. Since tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. and make sure that your teeth are good candidates for whitening. Replacement of any restorations should be done after bleaching so they will match your newly bleached teeth.
Tooth whitening is permanent, but in most clients, tooth staining continues to occur throughout your life. A touch-up may be needed every several years, and may be needed more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or red wine.
Good reasons for tooth whitening:
- Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development)
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.)
- Yellow or brown stained teeth
If you’re happy with your teeth except for the color, then whitening may be for you. We offer at-home-whitening with custom trays and quality gel, and in-office-power Zoom whitening. Either of these techniques are successful.
We have found that a combination of the two have given our clients the whitest results in the shortest amount of time.

Dr. Nelson says:
- Smile makeover using crowns instead of veneers?I recently invested in a smile makeover, and I am really happy with the results. However, I have noticed something and wondered if you could explain. I thought my dentist was going to place porcelain veneers, but it looks like the porcelain wraps all the way around my tooth. Isn’t that actually a crown? Can […]
- Can a fast diagnosis be accurate? One of my molars has become really sensitive to everything—heat, cold, even air. It has a large filling in it, and I’ve worried that it has a hole in it, or has worn thin or something. I have braces, too, and wondered if maybe that had something to do with this. I went to see […]
